Lost in space

Controllers forgot to turn on one of the experiments about the Huygens space probe ...

In one of the worst examples of "your life's work going down the tubes", controllers forgot to turn on one of the experiments about the Huygens space probe . The experiment, to measure wind and atmospheric composition on Titan, was developed and crafted over a period of 18 years by David Atkinson, one of the world's foremost authorities on extraterrestrial atmospheres. While the rest of the international space community revels in the quality and quantity of the images and data that has come back from Titan, he and his team can only sit and wonder what might have been.

UPDATE: It turns out that there may be some data available from the experiment on the secondary data channel that was turned on. Incomplete at best, it would certainly be better than nothing. Details as we get them.
