The Afghan War – 20 Years On

It’s been twenty full years since the remains of the Soviet Union gave up on Afghanistan and left the whole mess for the collected might of the Western world to fix. Since then nothing much has changed – warlords, religious militias, local freedom fighters, the police, the army, the Taliban, NATO forces, Pakistani puppet groups, and anyone else who can get three guys and a box of bullets together have been fighting over what used to be a country like dogs tearing at a long dead chunk of roadkill. It’s easy to forget how long and how fractured the whole thing has been – take a few minutes to refresh your memory with a brilliant photo tour of the last two decades.
